Substitution of Somatropin brands in 1 May 2018 data

Page last updated: 16 April 2018

The brand ‘Omnitrope’ (somatropin 10 mg/1.5 mL injection, 1.5 mL cartridge) was deleted from the PBS items 10441M, 10481P & 6311E in the 1 April 2018 changes. A different brand ‘SciTropin’ of this same form and strength was added to these items in the 1 May 2018 changes. These three item codes were not listed on the PBS for the month of April 2018.

If a valid prescription for these items was written before 1 April, and supplied after 1 May with the new brand ‘SciTropin’, the script should be payable, as the items were a benefit at both the date of prescribing and the date of supply. The brands are equivalent, so should be able to be swapped out as a benefit.

If a Prescription is written during the month of April (i.e. between the listings) then the script will not be valid, as the item was not a benefit during April.
